This is the war !

NGOs, bloggers and members of the opposition in Malaysia organized an operation "black-out" on the internet to replace their home page with a black screen to protest against a law they consider draconian.

The revolt was launched on the internet in Malaysia has a well-defined target: a new law, which critics say could make it possible prosecution in respect of any host, ISP or internet / mobinaute to content libelous or harmful it would have helped to disseminate. And to protest against this regulation deemed infringement of liberty, not only political figures of the opposition, but also NGOs and bloggers have decided to take the black curtain. Protesters have replaced their homepage with a black screen. An operation that lasted 24 hours. They also posted messages denouncing the Evidence Act, which came into force in April. "This might look like the web" could be read on the blog site Paultan.org.

Protesters denounce, through this law, attempted the ruling coalition, which governs Malaysia for more than half a century of independence, to muzzle the Internet while Malaysian press is very close to the government. In 1996, the government had promised not to censor content on the web in order to encourage foreign investment in the new technologies sector.

This war net Malaysia could have a real political impact. Prime Minister Najib Razak came to power in 2009, should convene elections before the end of the year. Increasingly challenged in recent months it promises greater civil liberties and repealed two laws that curbed by political activists civil liberties: the obligation for the owners of newspapers to renew their license every year of printing, and especially the Homeland Security Act, in force for more than 50 years. He also pledged to repeal the Sedition Act which limited freedom of expression in the name of the unity of this multicultural nation of 28 million people. But the opposition believes that these ads are just a smokescreen to try to scrounge votes before the election.
